What is your approach to advising or supporting students?

My goal everyday is to provide students what they walked in the door for; support, explanations, options and guidance to navigate their undergraduate trajectory.

What inspired you to pursue a career in advising?

As a first generation woman of color in higher education I was determined to succeed but sometimes confused about my options. Thankfully, my EOP advisor at UC Berkeley would remember my name, calmly explain my options, and encourage me to make my own decisions confidently. He inspired me to become a calm voice of reason and support in the complex university space.

What excites you about helping students at SF State?

Along with the SF State mission, I am constantly “inspired by the diversity of our community” to holistically facilitate educational access and success as a Graduation Specialist.

What's your favorite part of your job?

Commencement day!

What's the best class you've ever taken?

Diverse Leadership in Education at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where we explored the role that diversity plays in complex educational leadership challenges.

What advice do you have for SF Gators?

Have a dream, set a timeline, draft an action plan and take the first step.
