What is your approach to advising or supporting students?
Advising is a form of collaboration between an advisor and advisee, working together towards a common goal. It is a teaching environment where students can learn how to be successful professionally and personally.
What inspired you to pursue a career in advising?
I have experienced many challenges in my life and these challenges helped me become a stronger individual. It gives me the satisfaction when I motivate and inspire my students to never give up and show their resiliency as their strength.
What excites you about helping students at SF State?
Being part of their journey and witnessing their success. By helping students graduate, I can help more students get into SF State and help them shape their future.
What's your favorite part of your job?
Being able to help students develop their professional and personal growth. Helping them be aware of the campus resources that can help them with their current challenges. Building a collaborative relationship towards their success. Lastly, helping students gives me fulfillment because I can help them graduate on time and be part of their journey here at SF State.
What's the best class you've ever taken?
My Spanish class in high school because that's where I met my mentor/hero.
What's the most unusual job you've ever had?
I haven't experience an unusual job. However, I worked at various restaurants as a server for 7 years. I was working 2 serving shifts while being a full time student.
What advice do you have for SF Gators?
Embrace your life experience (good and bad) because it will help you grow. Work hard because it will be worth it at the end. Believe in your capabilities and never stop pushing towards your highest potential. Find a career that will give you fulfillment. Be Happy! Utilize the campus resources to maximize your experience here at SFSU. Lastly, Don’t give up, keep going! You Can Do It!
