More about Christine Co

B.A. Communication Studies, San Francisco State University
M.S. Counselor Education, San Jose State University

I want to make students feel comfortable when asking for help, because I understand that navigating college can be tricky and a little help can go a long way. I also strive to create productive relationships where I can make students feel more confident in making decisions independently by giving them the resources they need to be successful.

My professional background and interest has always been centered around helping students. With advising in particular, I look forward to working with students to align their goals and interests with their academic pursuits.

I had a great experience as an undergraduate at SF State, and I hope to also help students make the most out of their time at this university as well.

Witnessing the growth and confidence that students gain through receiving the support and resources that they need is the most rewarding aspect of my job.

I wanted to pursue a BA in Communication Studies because I absolutely hated public speaking, but I knew that I wanted to be skilled at it. COMM 368 (Forensics) forced me to get out of my comfort zone. Not only did I learn how to prepare for impromptu speeches and extemporaneous speaking, I had to compete in these areas against peers from other colleges and universities. It was the most nerve-wracking class I've ever taken, but also one of the most memorable and impactful.

I can't say that I've had jobs that are "unusual." But uniquely, all of my work experience has been at SF State. I started off as a work study student and campus tour guide, then after graduation I worked in Student Outreach Services and the Financial Aid Office, and now I'm here! I feel like I've come full circle.

Remember that your time here is your opportunity to grow and build a strong foundation for your future. Step out of your comfort zone and try new things, recalibrate your goals if you need to, and never hesitate to ask for help!

I've always enjoyed being outdoors - preferably on a hike or being somewhere beachside. I also love to travel and see the world just as much as I enjoy staying at home. Some new hobbies that I have somewhat picked up are indoor planting and wood working. We'll see how long that lasts.
