How to prepare for your Major Exploration appointment

Your first year is the ideal time to explore majors/interests so you can find the best fit for your personality, values, and skills. All undeclared students will have access to an online resource called "Exploring Majors: Pathway to Declaration" to help guide you through the major exploration process. If you are unsure of your major, prepare for your appointment by completing the following steps:

  1. Complete some free self-assessments below to get to know yourself in the context of interests, careers, personality, and values.

  1. Explore possible careers of interest using the Occupational Outlook Handbook or O*Net Online. You can also connect with a career counselor in the Career Services & Leadership Development office.

  1. Familiarize yourself with majors offered at SF State and pick 2-3 to discuss with your advisor. Use the Advising Hub to review the major requirements, major department website, general information, and freshmen student information for the major.
