My advising approach includes mentoring students in a holistic way to help them reach their academic, professional and personal goals.  It includes treating each student as an individual, and personalizing solutions to their academic needs.  It also consists of promoting student responsibility and empowering them to take ownership of their education.  Lastly, I believe in "Advising as Teaching," and want to ensure that students are transferring learned experiences in an advising session to life inside and outside of their educational career.

Both my positive and negative experiences with my education journey inspired me to pursue a career in advising.  I will never forget how I felt with the negative experience, but am very fortunate that I did not let it define me.  I will also never forget the positive experience with my TRIO Advisor; who genuinely encouraged and continuously reminded me about my potential.  I strive to create the same positive experience with the students I work with.

"Ah-ha" moments from not only the students, but from myself as well.  Academic advising is truly a teaching/learning experience for both the student and I.  I always look forward to learning something new and growing from it.

To name a couple: one, building relationships with students and seeing their growth over time, two, inspiring students and also being inspired by students, and lastly being part of the process in helping students find solutions to meet their educational and career goals.

Abnormal Psychology, the professor alone made it the best-interesting class I've ever taken!

It may not be unusual (but most boring!) was a job while in college.  I sat in a huge warehouse, and literally flipped through papers!  For 8 hours, 5 days a week for an entire summer, I flipped through papers, took out staples and paper clips so it could be scanned into a database.  The memorable experience also really motivated me to earn a college degree!

Go to class, study, don’t be afraid to not only ask questions but also for help!  Most importantly take the time to be a college student, explore and participate in the vast extracurricular/social opportunities and have fun!  Also, don’t forget to take advantage of all the FREE resources (example: academic advising) on campus to help you be most successful!

I like trees, stars, the ocean, leisure strolls, snowboarding, reading/learning, hanging out at the park, and relaxing.
