More about Rosy:
I initially attended community college at Ohlone College and received associates degrees in human development and social sciences and then transferred to UC Santa Barbara and got my B.A. in Sociology.
I would say it's very people-centered. I like to take into account all of the outside factors the student may have outside of school and how that can affect their academics.
As a first gen, low income, Latina I had to learn how to navigate the higher ed space on my own and I wouldn't have been successful without the support of people on campus who wanted to help students. I'm especially inspired and grateful for my community college professors and EOP / transfer advisors mentors.
I know that higher ed can be stressful, not only within your courses but also in terms of navigating the administrative side of things. I am always happy to be able to point students in the right direction and alleviate some of that stress for them.
I love being able to meet all kinds of people and personalities!
My two favorite courses in undergrad were Japanese cinema and first-person comparative lit.
I worked as a manager of a surf and kayak camp on the beach in Santa Barbara.
Don't be afraid to ask for help! We all need the support of others to succeed. :)
I enjoy reading (favorite book would have to be Just Kids by Patti Smith), films (I will watch any film A24 releases), and staying active (recently got into using a Pelaton bike) .
